Cambridge, Md. (Aug. 13, 2014) – Troy Wilson, a resident at Signature HealthCARE of Mallard Bay, is the grand prize winner of Reflect N Us, a multi-state art gallery and competition for nursing home residents to showcase their creative talents.
Reflect N Us displays the resident artwork online, allowing visitors to the site to vote on their favorite pieces. Artwork is categorized by medium and includes oil and water color paintings, charcoal, ink, chalk, pencil, and clay. The gallery also features other creations by nursing home residents, including quilts, jewelry, writing and more. Reflect N Us is organized by Louisville, Ky.-based Signature HealthCARE, which operates Signature HealthCARE of Mallard Bay. More than 620 pieces from nursing home residents in 10 states were submitted for this year’s competition.
Wilson was named a category winner for jewelry. Winners will have their artwork featured on promotional materials and other items.
“I’ve always enjoyed arts and crafts. Making this jewelry set gave me something to do, and it made a great gift for a friend.” said Troy Wilson.
Family, friends and community and community members were welcomed to a gallery showing last month to kick off the contest.
“What an honor for one of our own to be chosen as this year’s Reflect N Us winner!” said SHC of Mallard Bay Administrator/CEO Phyllis Coleman. “There’s so much talent among our residents. We want to give them an outlet to be recognized, and to share that talent with others, and the Reflect N Us program is a perfect opportunity. We’re already looking forward to next year!”
